Wednesday was a big (ish!) day in politics

Wednesday was a big day in politics- and not just because of the budget. The evening also happened to be the the occassion that Southampton Labour Party selected its MP in Test- yet no mention has appeared on the green obsessive's website nor that of Southampton Labour Party- I wonder why they are all so reticent about selecting Whitehead?!!!

Leaks posted to the comments section below are most welcome!

Matt
There is no story here.
The Labour Party reselects MP's on an electoral college comprising party brances, unions and affiliated organisations such as the Fabian Society.
I helped chair the meeting on Tuesday (not wednesday) which was well attended including people I have not seen for several years. Every member voted to re-select Alan (including the website designer) and praised Alan as an excellent MP especially his green credentials.
The process has not finished yet so there is nothing to report.

Maybe after the local Tories problems last time in failing to select Royston Smith you should report on your selection problems

I think it is good for all other parties represented in Southampton that Labour have gone for Whitehead again.
For the tories to win power at the next election then it is seats like Test they must win.
Out of Itchen and Test, test is the most winnable and has been made easily winnable by re-selecting Whitehead.
Southampton Itchen, Test and the new seat of Southampton North and Romsey will be key battle grounds.
Alarmingly the local Tories perhaps not wanting a repeat of the fiasco of there lase selection process for the Southampton seats are yet to select their candidates.
UKIP candidates have been in place for the past 6 months and are ready to fight.

Poor Ryan - left with egg on his face and his political reputation in tatters while making UKIP Southampton a laughing stock - claiming until a few weeks ago to have 16 UKIP candidates in place - and then only having 5 candidates in place - and Ryan isn't one of them.
